Residents speak out about increase in property valuations at Board of Review

by Rev. Herbert Rotunda

With all council members present, Mayor Justin Koepp called the April 10 regular city council meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. in council chambers. Following custom, those present and able rose to recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

Administrator Olinger added conference and vacation dates to the agenda which the council then approved as amended. There were no requests to speak in the public forum.

Mayor Koepp received a motion to open the required annual Board of Equalization and Review meeting. County Assessor Joseph Tschida and his assistant, Jenn Grussing were present if any resident wished to question their property value assessment.

In information presented in the packet, Tschida stated the total value of property for assessment in Appleton for 2024 was $80.4 million. It was also stated that board adjustments cannot exceed one percent of total assessments. In the city of Appleton this means reductions in property adjustments cannot exceed $804,000. Tschida did inform the public that in Swift County all houses have an increase of one percent in evaluation for 2024.
